A gift that keeps giving
Harold Iseminger’s bequest helps women and children in need

the reach of a giving heart. After his death in 2005 at age 88, Harold
Iseminger, a dedicated hospital volunteer who gave more than 34,000 hours over 23 years of service,
made a truly life-changing gift.
Through his will, Harold left a $2 million bequest to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center
Foundation to benefit women, children, and babies whose families can’t afford the health care they need.
The Foundation was able to establish an endowment that generates funds annually.
Harold was a quiet man whose wishes to support those less fortunate even after he was gone were
heard loudly and clearly through his bequest. His generosity is impacting the lives of women and
children each day through the care provided at Family Medicine of Southwest Washington by providing:
■ ■
A crib-safety program for parents of newborns
■ ■
Behavioral health support from social workers and therapists for children in vulnerable home
environments
■ ■
A Reach Out and Read program for infants and toddlers
■ ■
A Healthy Lifestyles class teaching the value of good nutrition and exercise
■ ■
In-house consultations for high-risk maternity patients at Family Medicine
As a volunteer in the Medical Records department, Harold sorted mail, made deliveries, and organized
paperwork. His co-workers joked that he knew the hospital better than anyone. One said, “He shared
our children, our pets, our humor, and our food. His contribution as a friend and colleague cannot be
measured.”
Harold Iseminger clearly loved this hospital and his community and wanted to make a lasting
difference. There’s no doubt he did.
Harold’s gift
at work
After giving birth, Kayla Trout had
continual abdominal pains. Her doctor
found two arterial aneurysms in her
spleen, requiring immediate surgery.
Uninsured, the family faced daunting
medical bills and a major health crisis.
A social worker at Family Medicine
helped secure funding for Kayla’s surgery
through the PeaceHealth Southwest
Foundation.
Kayla had surgery and is doing well. “It
was an immense financial burden lifted
from my shoulders. I am so grateful to all
the wonderful people who helped me.”
